Rainy Day Workout Inspiration (+ 4 Coach Fitness Videos)

by Yes Health

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain." - Vivian Greene.

Depending on where you live and your personal relationship with precipitation, rain may be a welcome friend you don’t see often enough or a tiresome guest that’s hung around a few weeks too long.

To help motivate us to get outside and break a sweat no matter what the clouds have in store, the Yes Health Coaches have created an inspiring list of workout ideas.

Seven Rainy-Day Workout Ideas:

  • Play like a kid! Jump in the puddles, or over them if you’d prefer.
  • Warm up with lunges, squats, stairs and jumping jacks. They’re all great ways to get the blood pumping.
  • Practice the buddy system. Ask a friend to join you—they’ll help make your workout fun and distract you from your wet surroundings.
  • Take shelter. Choose a wooded area for hiking, running or walking so the trees provide some built-in protection.
  • Dress for success. Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you have to get wet. Invest in some quality waterproof gear to keep you warm and dry. Our fitness guru Coach Kate recommends a lightweight, waterproof top layer with warmer layers underneath you can remove once you get moving. Be sure your top layer is bright and colorful so you’re easily visible to cars.
  • Check the weather forecast. Try moving your workout to a dryer time of day if there’s a predicted break in the rain.
  • Reward yourself with a healthy snack and cup of green tea. It will warm you back up and provide healthy antioxidants.

If you absolutely can’t convince yourself to go outside, get creative indoors. There’s a lot you can do with little or no workout equipment.

If none of these ideas are appealing, you can always do your best to run between the raindrops!
