Agatha, our tech-loving healthy lifestyle guru, leads the team of Yes Health coaches—highly qualified nutritionists, registered dietitians and fitness trainers. Together, they cheer on our members to meet health goals they might not have thought possible on their own.
Recently, we sat down with Agatha to learn what she likes most about being a coach and where she gets her daily inspiration.
Q. What made you join Yes Health?
A. Yes Health takes what I love doing—helping people help themselves to lead healthier lives—and makes it accessible to a larger audience. I love the idea of using our phones as middle men in our health journey. Technology is the way of the future, but the human element is invaluable. Yes Health combines mobile technology with health coaches, allowing coaches to be in our members’ pockets. As a naturopathic doctor who focuses on lifestyle intervention to improve health, I was drawn to the idea of using mobile technology to see more people without needing to be face-to-face in the office. Becoming the lead coach of Yes Health was a natural fit.
Q. What do you like best about being a Yes Health coach? What is most challenging?
A. Being able to connect with people in real time and help them make the small changes that lead to lifelong health improvements is great. It’s also really fun to have a team of coaches to work with. Together, we’re helping members make healthier changes, and we are also reviewing studies and applying the findings to stay up to date with the most recent recommendations. The most challenging thing about being head coach is finding the right balance between working and raising my two young sons.
Q. How are the coaches selected?
A. Our coaches come from a variety of backgrounds—mostly nutrition, but also personal training and psychology. In our interview process, we look for people who are passionate about what they do, have great experience and are tech-savvy. It turns out that our criteria has led us to not only stellar coaches, but also really kind and interesting people.
Q. How would you describe the current team?
A. We have a great core team! Check out some of our coach’s bios to learn more about their amazing backgrounds. Kate is our primary fitness guru, who not only motivates our members, but also the coach team. Jill, Jennifer, Sally and Eden are our core nutritionists. Both Sally and Eden have graduate degrees in psychology and share a passion for the well-being aspect of Yes Health.
Q. What do the coaches add to Yes Health?
A. The coaches add what other apps that focus on fitness and weight loss are lacking: humans. Yes Health connects real people with real coaches in real time. They are passionate and understanding and also knowledgable and convincing. The coaches are available for feedback, questions and suggestions, and keep members accountable. Change is never easy, but it’s easier if you’re never alone.
Q. As a busy person juggling career and family, how do you personally stay healthy?
A. I use the teachings I helped develop for the Yes Health core program. Like anyone, I do indulge from time to time, but I also love cooking healthy meals and staying active. As a parent, I think part of my job is to live a healthy life and teach by example. We go on daily walks, do parent-child swim lessons, hike and play outside. I also sign my family up for seasonal fun 5K races, like the upcoming Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. It’s a great way to get friends and family together to enjoy the outdoors.
